GMAT preparation programs

The Graduate Management Admission Test® (GMAT) is designed to measure basic verbal, mathematical, and analytical writing skills that have been developed over a long period of time through education and work. It is a requirement for most Business schools and MBA programs. Approach International Student Center offers GMAT courses for international students in partnership with Manhattan GMAT.

As the Manhattan GMAT name implies they teach only one test: the GMAT. This means that all time, energy, and resources are spent developing strategies for the GMAT's unique content rather than for the generic standardized exam. This specialized focus gives students an edge that "all-in-one" test prep companies cannot provide. All instructors must have scored a 99th percentile overall on the official GMAT (currently a 760+), must have prior teaching experience and must undergo a 100+ hour training process before being allowed to see students.

Classes start every month and students can choose live or online instruction. During the first 9 weeks of instruction, students meet 3 hours per week with the GMAT instructor and 18 hours per week for proctored study group.

Course Highlights:

  • Content-Based Curriculum: We believe that the best GMAT curriculum should provide students familiarity with the math, grammar, and analytical principles that the GMAT tests.  Accordingly, Manhattan GMAT strives to re-teach students the 8th and 9th grade math tested on the GMAT as well as the grammar and logic that many students may never have studied. Other GMAT test prep programs on the market focus on teachable methods, such as “process of elimination” and "back solving" techniques. The Manhattan GMAT course curriculum is different; it seeks to provide test takers of all levels with content mastery and an organized approach that builds skills for every question type on the exam, including the most advanced content that many other prep companies ignore.

  • Class sizes are limited (generally ranging between 8 – 18 students)

  • Sessions are structured around Instructor presentations and group exercises designed to be both challenging and engaging. Each session includes solving and reviewing a number of real GMAT questions drawn from past exams.

  • All sessions are centered on presentations that are projected onto a screen or whiteboard – students are NOT asked to simply follow along in their books, but to actively participate in problem-solving throughout the class.

  • Classes are complemented by computer-based practice exercises designed to build speed and simulate the real testing environment. Students can also schedule live online office hours with an Instructor to get help with homework problems and extra one-on-one attention outside of class.

To check the next available sessions and dates, log on to www.manhattangmat.com. We strongly advise students to go to the first class prior to registering, as each 3-hour class is fairly intense. There is typically a lot of class participation, as well as a lot of homework outside of class. An online sample lesson is available at
